Anyone ever have the airlines lose their skis?

It's never happened to me, but it seems you hear more about more about airlines losing people's luggage. So aside from using this as an opportunity to demo new skis, what can you do if this happens? What's the airline's liability? Anyone know?

Never totally lost, but years ago, on the way home, Air Canada sent my stuff on about 3 planes later. I had already left the airport. They delivered it to my home. One year on a trip to Copper in late Feburary, a friend didn't get her luggage (on the return trip again) till July!! She'd already claimed everything, so now had new and old stuff. Most of my trips are out of the country and they like you to have your luggage, so it seems that you get it.
