Anyone collect ski memorabilia?

Great posters! I really like the artwork.

Oh, me too! I have some old ski books, some in black and white, and just love looking through them. I look at the fashions, equipment, and techniques too. So interesting.

A shadowbox works well for pins & postcards.

Well Lilgeorg, we ended up with a bench. Tomorrow I'll get a picture. A headboard sound better. I've heard of fences too. As for pins, I've a friend who made a quilted mountain scene and put her pins on it. One mountain for western resorts, one for eastern and one for europe. It's graces their rec-room. Looks neat, and better than in the drawer like mine.

Have you tried ebay? I got a number old patches there (not Great Gorge, however, though I had one as a kid). I framed them as a group and hung them on the wall in my bedroom.

I check regularly on e-bay and elsewhere, but so far no luck. I have a Vernon Valley patch already and am looking for the Great Gorge one to complete my "collection" for this resort, so I can put on my jacket, one for each sleeve. :p

I collect old ski area signs and old skis. I have one of my bathrooms totally decked out in old ski area stuff. On the outside of the door I have a local ski area sign from the chairlift that says "Prepare to Unload". Then right over the chair (the toilet) I have another lift sign that says "Unload Here". I know it's kinda gross, but I've got a really wierd sense of humor. :D

I think that's neat!! We have a sign that states: " Bar is open, experts only" (complete with double black diamonds!). My friend that owns the local ski shops collects old skis. He calls it his museum. I think he's one of those guys - the guy with the most toys, when he dies, wins. (?)

I don't collect anything from ski areas, tho' I do get a wine glass from every trip we fly to. On the other hand, Mr. Quiver collects ski pins but has nowhere to put them, so I thought I'd be a sweetie and buy him a nice hat to put them on. After looking long and hard, I finally found the perfect gray wool polo-looking hat, and all happy I carried it over to the counter to pay for it. On the way to the counter I turned the hat over & caught a glimpse of the price tag--$978!!!! After recovering from my fall, the heart attack, and the stroke, I (gently) took it back to the rack, and have again been looking for a ski pin hat ever since.

Decorating with old skis

I have been trying to learn to post photos and have wanted to share these for some time. We made headboards for our loft over the garage with old skis and made clothes racks with others.

I have a collection of vintage black & white photos of women skiing. Some day soon when I own a home in the mountains I want to frame them all in black and mount them on a wall.

I'm looking for some cute, funny, figurines of ski and snowboard figures to display on a shelf. Not too large, and animals would be great since all ski and snowboard figures always seems to be caucasian.... Think smurfs on skis? Bears? Any ideas Divas?

That's a great idea!

I have one I got from Disney a number of years ago. I love how active he looks!

We've finally settled on a ski pin display system--we use antique typesetters drawers. These are the drawers that are only about 2.5 inches thick, and the base of the drawer is made of little wooden partitions (some with varied sizes, some uniform) forming boxes about 1 x 1.5" and maybe 1/2" deep. In the base of each of the boxes we place a piece of padded fabric to which a ski pin is attached. Then the drawers are stood on end and able to be mounted flat on the wall. DH has them arranged according to mountains I've skied, mountains he's skied, mountains we've both skied, and mountains neither of us has skied but we just found the pins somewhere.

Speaking of pins, I'm looking for a vintage Sugarbowl (Tahoe area) pin for DH--he used to live there in tiny cabin half buried by snow right on the slopes. Anybody know where I could find one???????

Ooooh, I'd love to see the clothes racks -- I've been thinking of putting hooks in a pair of old skis I have and making a hat/jacket rack out of them. For now the skis are just standing in a corner and I throw my hats over the tips. I friended you on facebook so I can see the pics.

I am so not good at posting photos. We now have 2 kinds of clothes racks. We hung the skis horizontially on the wall and screwed hooks into them. We made several of those. the second kind we did just year. We took 4 skis and stood them on end to make a tepee. Then we put hooks on them. I will try again to send photos.

I saw the pics on facebook. The horizontal rack with the hooks you did is pretty much exactly what I want to do. Hopefully I can motivate over the next few weeks to actually do it.

It's a quick project. You just need to drill holes in the skis before you try putting the hooks on. I have had lots of good comments about them. One family member even saw them and rubbed them fondly saying," Oh, I remember these. I had so much fun on these. Oh....."
