Another small step forward....

Today I finally conquered the slope that has been giving me fits all season! I was hesitant to try it again today because I did not feel the snow was that good, all tracked out, wind-crusted snow. So, I tried it anyway, and made it all the way down the first headwall without stopping. (Previously, I just did it one turn at a time, traversing after the turn, and then stopping - completely unproductive, I know).

Then I made it down the next section without stopping --- it has multiple fall lines, which usually throws me a bit.

Then, I made it all the way down the bottom section, which is a natural halfpipe..... nice turns, no stopping!!

I kept in my mind a tip I got from an instructor at snowbird -- just took it three turns at a time. And when I thought about it like that, I actually felt myself getting in a rhythm!

HA! When I got to the bottom, I looked at Tim, and asked him if he thought they had somehow filled in the slope and made it less steep, because it was much, much easier than it had been when I skied it before.

WAY TO GO!!!!

Sheena, that's where you're wrong -- it is NOT unproductive, because you were a little farther down the hill after each turn/traverse. Just not very efficient, but sometimes, just the way we get where we're going!

(sometimes, when skiing with DH, he says, do such and such, and I tell him "this is an any which way gets me down the hill" run. It MAY be a "good" run, or it may be an "ugly" run. When it's an ugly run, I'm pleased as punch to have gotten safely top to bottom. When it turns out to be a good one, well, you know the feeling!)

Instructor tips are SO handy! I keep finding myself talking out loud -- my nifty little cue words to remind myself of my last instructor's most helpful hints. DH thinks I'm a bit wacky, sliding down the hill saying things like Soccer Ball and Fifty-Two!

Did the class at Snowbird have anything to do with "your" hill, or is the really cool corollary that the class at Snowbird wound up carrying over into "real life" -- I think my off trail class a few weeks ago made a big difference in my "everyday" skiing. Sounds like your classes helped with the everyday stuff too!

Sheena, you are inspiring!

Sheena, that's great. Just think of how you're going to feel the next time you're standing at the top.

Awesome achievement!
Hope you grinned ear to ear.
Thanks for sharing - love to read these breakthroughs.
