Am I a "heavy woman"

Still trolling through ski information...am currently looking at the Fischer Exhale. Notice, on this review though

at the bottom, it says not for heavy for powerful women

So, I'm close to 5'8", currently running around 170 lbs.

Am I "heavy?"

I dunno about the Exhale particularly, but I'm about 170 myself with very muscular legs and ski the Fischer Vision 70s which are women's specific and pretty light. I've seen recommendations for women in our weight range to stick with unisex skis, but in my experience plenty of women's specific skis aren't too wimpy.

Can you demo them?

They're willing to let me demo one ski...so I'm trying to choose wisely. The exhale's in the store are 155, but I think they are on closeout, so I could get the 160s if I wanted.

Guess I set myself up for that one...what can I say...I'm a math teacher, not an english teacher...didn't pay attention. Now...If you want to calculate the slope of the ski hill...I'm right there with you (Currently teaching slope right now, yet, every hill I go down seems steep )

When I demo, I go back in for a new pair of skis every 1-2 runs and take notes on what I like and what I don't.

I'm about your size as well. I'll say that most womens skis are too noodly for me, but there are an increasing number that work well for everybody, not just tiny women. But in general, I prefer unisex skis. So if I was in your situation, I'm not sure that's what I'd choose for my one demo. (But I'd just go to a shop on the mountain where you can swap out skis all day and demo them all...)

Yeah, I guess it's depending on what sort of ski, but in general, I'd agree. I have some little slalom skis that are a 160. But the rest of my skis are in the 175-185 range. I'd use 165 as a minimum for your height for an all-purpose ski and go up from there.

I am on 154s and I'm 5'6 (and a half....gotta stick that half inch in there ;) ) and I would like to go a little longer.... I would go 160 at least if I were you.

The reason I can only demo one is because it's a really small market and they can't afford to demo the majority of their stock. But, they know I'm a really good customer (8pr XC, 6 bikes, numerous friends)...they really want my business, so if there's something I really would like, they'll throw some bindings on and let me try them.
