One benefit of all the ski resort acquisitions: the big companies have deep pockets. Alterra just announced that it'll be making $181 Million in capital improvements for 19/20.

Here's the full story.

Interesting to see the priorities for the big capital expenditures. DV is certainly behind for the SLC market in not having RFID. About $40 million is earmarked for lifts and snowmaking. $4 millions is for snowmaking infrastructure at Tremblant with the goal of better early season conditions. No major money at Stratton for winter sports, but plenty of contruction planned related to mountain biking. $181 million for the next year is on top of $179 million spent before the 2018-19 season.

". . .
Marquee 2019/2020 projects aimed at enhancing the guest experience include new high-speed lifts at Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows and Winter Park, direct to lift access at Deer Valley Resort, an expansive renovation of the Bobbie Burns lodge at CMH Heli-Skiing & Summer Adventures, and an upgrade of Steamboat’s gondola.

This year’s $181 million plan includes $32.3 million towards improved gondolas and lifts, a $27.1 million investment in innovation to offer customer-friendly technology, $8.3 million towards state-of-the-art snowmaking, $6.2 million dedicated to expanded dining experiences, $6.3 million in summer activity investments, and nearly $10 million in planning efforts to unlock future potential terrain and lift expansions, base area developments, new dining facilities, and four-season activity offerings.

Tremblant is putting money into snow making on the Versant Soliel There is going to be a major hotel building going up and they need to have the green run open well before January. They have also purchased 2 new groomers. Those machines don't come cheap either.

BBMR desperately needs more parking - that is for sure. As for their dining improvements in the base area ... some more indoor seating would come in handy on the colder days. We had a weather hold on lifts during the last storm and nothing was open except for the bottom cafe which has about 3 tables! We all just stood hopefully in line because there was really nowhere else to go!
