Now that the Christmas shopping season has officially begun, what's on your list (ski-related, of course)? Post it here (maybe Santa will see it!). And what ski gear are you buying for your loved ones?

Well because I want to ski before Christmas and have to work to pay for it, I've most of my shopping already done. So Hubby is getting new gloves and a new base layer top. I picked up these items when I was at MEC in October. He also wants a ski sweater - you know the type with a zip and snowflakes. Well I love him but $ 450.00 for a Dale of Norway is not in my budget. So, he's getting a plain sweater with a zip, cotton knit and can be used more for apres ski. We have a deal that we only spend around $ 100.00 on each other, so we can afford to go skiing. No kids, so items there. My Dad doesn't ski and I'm having problems with his presents - 80 years old and very active. As for myself, Santa could start me on a quiver of skis maybe. Since I've got groomers, how about a pair of all mountain ladies - Siam 10's maybe?

I am sooooo fortunate! I really don't want anything except fun times with my family and a great ski adventure with my niece and nephew.

They grew up too fast:(

We're going to Steamboat for Christmas - I couldn't ask for a better present (well, I wouldn't mind another pair of skis under the tree!:D ) Having all of us together and getting to ski with all 3 of my boys is the best!

Well, I asked for some spring gloves and base layers, but what I really want is a nice BIG snowstorm out in Summit County on Christmas day. Or heck, any of the days I'm there during the holidays.

I got The Boy a pair of Spy goggles.

You don't need to pray for snow, we already have it! I skied in 8" of powder on Tuesday and there is supposed to be more coming this weekend.

Why wait until Christmas? Come now, it's cheaper and no crowds!

I think we're setting up camp in the Dillon Best Western (not sure?) and will probably hit Vail and Breckenridge or Keystone, we're not really sure... just gonna kind of roll with the punches depending on our feelings that morning. We're arriving on Xmas eve, and skiing on Xmas day to take advantage of the low crowds, then will ski the next 2 days or so before heading back to Colorado Springs.

Depending on weather, we may go to Garden of the Gods or Shelf Rd. to do a bit of cragging before heading down to Monarch for a few days, then I fly out on New Year's day.

It'll be my first time out west, I'm excited!

Wow, you will love it here!

Copper mtn is my favorite, Keystone next, Breck my least favorite. Believe it or not Vail is not on my list of favorites, parking is expensive (near $20) and inconvenient and it takes forever to get from one place on the mtn to another, there are long lines.

If you get in early enough ski Keystone on the 24th, they have night skiing (I can see the lights from my condo). Go to Vail early on the
25th and ski mid-Vail until it gets crowded, that's where the longest lines are (that's a given any day of the season). Breck is the 2nd most crowded ski area in Colorado and don't go there if it is windy consider Copper instead. The least crowded but a little farther away is Beaver Creek. Parking is free and it is easy to get around the mtn. The snow there is good, they had to cancel the World Cup practice the other day due to too much snow on the Birds of Prey runs.

Don't forget to hydrate well before you come and bring sunscreen.

Do you have reservations for a room? If not, be verifying them now.

I've skied too many years at Christmas so if I ski it will be the 24th and 25th.

Enjoy!

Wow, thanks for the info! I have heard that 'crowded' out west has nothing on the crowds that some of the eastern resorts can cook up, but I'm noting your observations on Breck. The Boy has a Colorado Pass so we'll probably definitely do a day at Vail, if just to check how 'the other side' lives  and then I'm thinking Abasin because I like the laidback underrated resorts (hence the trip to Monarch). I think Copper is on the Colorado Pass? Or maybe it's Keystone... either way we'll probably hit whichever is on that. I'm probably going to do that 3 day pass deal where you can go to any of the 5 resorts, but you can only do Vail or Beaver Creek once... which is fine by me!

Any information on good Xmas celebrations? I had read a blurb in the recent Ski magazine regarding a torchlight parade, maybe at Keystone that was supposed to be good... I may be feeling festive on the 24th and will be up for just taking in the scene since I will be letting myself acclimate to the higher altitudes on the 23rd and that day.

Usually when we ski we're not much for a night life, but I figure I have to check out the bigger resort 'style' when I'm out there, just to see what's up. Other than that, my plans are just to Ski, Ski, Climb, and Ski (oh and maybe do some snogging with The Boy who I haven't seen in 2 months... hehe)
