Ahhh...redemption.

After feeling guilty about missing an entire Sunday not skiing...today was redemption day. Boy was it ever!

You see, Aspen/Snowmass is having trouble keeping up with private lessons due to the lack of work visas for foreign workers (there are tons here). We end up turning them away. And because it's one of our biggest money-makers...they recruited us office-folk here in corporate to get our asses on the mountain & make some money!!

So today, for a few hours, was an instructor clinic - teaching us the basics of instruction. Most of us already have had instructor experience...otherwise they'd never let us out there with clients.

Anyway - sunny day, dumped all night last night 16" of fresh snow. After the training, the veteran instructor was just itching to take us to some well kept secrets of Snowmass. With that much snow, it would have been nice anywhere...but this was a treat!! I was the only girl...the rest bailed to go take lunch. So there I was, as usual, the only diva in the group with 4 corporate exec dudes who were all really great skiers...but I wasn't concerned.

We hiked up to Gawdy's - which is inbounds still...but after 16" of snow and hardly ANYONE on the slopes today...we got to it barely even touched. With about a 5 foot drop in cornice at the top, the guide, Vic asked me (nobody else) "are you comfortable with this?" :eyebrows: he he. Little did he know. Instead of answering, I just hucked off the side as if to say "yup!" The snow was still grey in areas from the dynamite charges this morning.

After that he took us to the Wall...again, big stashes of untouched snow all over. Real deep. It's not that he was taking us to "new" places...just skiing different lines that I never take. All in all, it was an amazing day. You gotta love a company that wants you out of the office & on the mountain. We ran into the Mtn. Manager & CEO out there today...and they were as giddy as little kids! Not to mention, strolling into the office at 3PM and riding out the rest of the day in ski clothes...not too shabby.

Life is good.:becky:

I am sooooo jealous! We skied variable conditions in Vail all weekend and kept hoping for the dump.

It would cloud up, light would get flat, and it would start to snow some *teaser snow* and accumulate a handful of inches and stop, and then the wind would pick it up and blow it off. . . and then last night. . . dumping, dumping, dumping. Dumping when we drove home this morning.

Sigh. I so wanted to stay today!

Oh, and good for you!
:D

Any need for a door knob saleslady?? And I've got credentials, but no green card!! Take advantage of days like this. They don't happen often enough!

The only reason I found the job was pure luck. I checked their internet site from back east & they just called back. Within 2 weeks of the interview...there I was in Aspen!

And - days like today are special - I'll admit...but I've been able to turn the mountain into my office at least once a week since ski season started. Some days I feel like it's all a dream, or like I've won some sort of lottery.
