A warmer winter for the NE?

I've been hearing reports that an El Nino is forming in the Pacific. And for those of us in the Northeast, that can only mean bad news: a warm winter.

Then again, they've been wrong before. Last year NOAA said it was going to be colder and snowier than usual, and they were wrong on both counts.

Here's the report on El Nino from CNN:

This could be seen as Bad News. On the other hand, it could be seen as an opportunity to learn to ski ICE! Much like last year.

Another winter weather prediction. This one's from Accuweather, and it says it'll be colder than normal in the NE, drier and warmer in the Rockies. Take it for what it's worth (which isn't much).

You could drive yourself nuts with this stuff!!! (Then why do I keep posting it? Very good question...... )

In the winter I check maybe 5 or 6 different weather sites daily. Now that summer has fully bloomed and is fading, I've gotten used to not checking any more. But I don't do it because it helps, or because it gives anything like reliable information. Because mountain weather in New England is just not predictable. I think I dive into these sites just to linger in the anticipation of skiing. I blanket myself with thoughts about it continually. Obsessed?

Liquidfeet you are not obsessed. I too check weather and snow conditions several times a day in ski season. I bet many others on this forum - and Epic Ski check the weather often too. I get particularly obsessed just before a trip out west. Then I check the resort website, weather predictions, snow totals, etc. constantly. There really is no point to it. After all, I am not going to change the weather just by checking it. I still can't stop myself though. Must be a need to feel in control!

I just realized I used the term obsessed. WRONG word. I don't really think it is obsession - I think most people either check to reassure themselves about the weather - or to hope for some change.

I really shouldn't attempt to post when the kids have just come home from school and are asking about food, talking about their day, etc. I can't multitask like today's generation.

So far, the switch from summer to fall has been quicker. Last year, it was still hot thru september and october was quite warm as well.
Based on this scientific info, I believe we will have a much cooler, snowier northeast winter this year!

Well, so far late fall has been a bust on the NorthEast (to be forever referred to as the NE). It's warmer this november than october!

I am dreaming of buying a ticket to Colorado. It's not the ticket that's the problem; its the accommocations, car rental, lift ticket, food. It all adds up. Hard to rationalize when one is redoing the bathrooms, bedrooms and kitchen. Where are my priorities?

I'd rather be skiing!:D (but my husband wants the house done)
