A great way to spend my birthday!

This year, for the 1st time in several years, hubby and I went riding for my birthday - just the 2 of us! We usually have a big picnic with friends who ride, but with my A-Basin trip coming up next weekend, we decided to make it a cheap weekend.
Click each pic to go to host site, then Full Size in the lower right corner for larger views.

Saturday we headed about 1 1/2 hours South to Greenville to our 2 favorite trails. We started at the easier of the 2, the Shearer Rd trail. We did the 4.5+ miles with lots of back tracking to try stuff a 2nd time or to take pics of some of the stunts. They added a new long log pile which I managed to fall off twice before giving up. Here's some of the other log piles:
Here's me on the 1st log pile (it's got a really steep back side):

Not into logs? Try the Rock Garden instead:

We both rode this one:

I've ridden this stupid thing every time we've been here without a problem, until today. What you can't see is the 4' deep pit full of stagnant water that's under this whole thing. My SS has 1.95" wide tires (instead of our usual 2.1") which is apparently skinny enough to drop right in between the 2 2x6s. My rear wheel jammed in, throwing me off onto the big logs on the side. This pic is from my 2nd attempt at it.

After 2 crashes on the new log pile and the crash off the pit skinny, I didn't do this:

Or this:

Hubby did it twice, eventually ending like this:

Yes, that's as skinny as it looks:

After chillin' for a few minutes, we headed off to find the other trail, Edwards Creek. The city finally finished a paved trail that goes along the river through town, conveniently connecting the 2 trails. The paved connector was surprisingly interesting and the turn off to the other trail was well marked.

We only rode a small portion of the Edwards Creek trail. Here's some pics of the section we did from previous trips:
On the right side of this pic you'll see the lower ridge ride going into this section. On the left is the upper ridge ride coming back out 3 miles later:

We both by-passed this one:

Hubby did the Teeter and Rollercoaster Bridge (I by-passed both, knowing I have a ski trip coming up in 5 days!. I have all summer to prove myself on this stuff):

And the big log pile:

After all that fun, we rode the paved connector back to the car, for a total trip of just under 11 miles. I was pretty impressed with being able to do all this on the single speed without walking a single hill. If started to rain just as we headed out of the trailhead parking lot! All-in-all, it was a great day, topped off with ice cream in Greenville, and then steak dinner on the grill when we got home. Happy Birthday to me!!!

WOW! Fun Pictures! I've never been gutsy enough to do the mountain bike thing! I'm jealous!

You look like you had a FABULOUS birthday! Good for you!
