The big Fourth of July weekend is almost here! Anyone have any big plans? Or is the high price of gas forcing you to stay home? Will you see fireworks?

We have friends who have a cabin on a lake in New York State, and we've gone there to celebrate the Fourth for at least 25 years. This year is no exception. And yes, there'll be fireworks!

What about you?

Well, I'll be working as its not a holiday in Canada. TODAY IS!! And there will be fireworks tonight at the park. In fact there is a whole day devoted to the holiday at the park. All events are free and put on the "buy locally owned" group. Concerts, games, food etc. And the fireworks at dusk. This a professionally done show, and paid for by the local utility company. Always wondered where my $$ went!! Going to go and enjoy the show. Back to work tomorrow.

We have gone off to New York too. We hope to be hang gliding and watching the fireworks from several surrounding towns from the top of the mountain.

Oh, I should say too that I'll be watching Pops goes the 4th though. I love the music and fireworks. Just have to find out which Boston station is airing it this year. Used to be PBS, then a regular network.

No plans set in stone with me and Mr SH. It seems that plans get changed every time we make them, due to weather or family, so why not play it by ear and sing a happy song where ever it takes us?
Love it!

First up, a milestone bike ride (cause now I can't get enough!) that if I complete it will be near 50 miles. :D And I haven't a clue yet for the rest of the day.

I will be biking from NYC to West Point on Friday July 4th. Stay there and bike around some more on Saturday. Then bike back to the city on Sunday.

NO CAR, NO DRIVING, NO GAS expense!!!

Oh yeah, there'll be a BBQ and a cruise on the Hudson while we watch the fireworks!

Yeehaa!!!

Off to central Idaho - McCall. I will drive shuttle for DH's overnighter wilderness raft trip on the S FK Salmon, and then hang with some friends. This will include bbq on the deck, sailing, mountain biking etc.

Yes, it's a long drive -5 hours - but we don't do a lot of big trips or commute so we give in.

not a lot planned here, except maybe go up to Great Barrington, MA (read Butternut Basin ski area), where there is a very large juried art/craft festival. I think I'll bring my bike and check out any trails there. then relax, have a beer, go for a swim, watch the Yankees and do some reading.

A good friend is playing guitar in a local club Thursday night which I'll check out, and the West Point Jazz Knights are doing a free concert nearby, which sounds good, too, jazzy big-band style stuff.

We are heading up to the place in Vt. We then have people coming up on Saturday and staying until Monday. We did stop by the fireworks store today and loaded up so we'll be firing those off Saturday night. It should be a good time.

abc--I'm so jealous!! That cycling trip sounds great!

Good luck, Skimom, and have a great time!

I'll be riding my bike down to our town's parade wearing red, white, and blue streamers from my helmet. I nephew gave them to me as a gag gift for Christmas to put on the handle bars of my new super duper high tech light-as-a-feather road bike--NOT!! But it should be fun, even if looking stupid.

Last year a young Iraq veteran from our town walked the entire parade route on two prostheses taking the place of his legs which were blown off by an IED. The whole town cheered, screamed, cried, and clapped endlessly. I still get choked up thinking about it. Such an incredible sacrifice!

No idea, as of yet. It might be a great day to spend time as a family, but waiting to see if H has anything planned. Of course, last year I had the greatest of plans to go for a family bike ride. We ended up in the ER instead when DS decided to jump face-first out of the back of the jeep while I was trying to get the trailer attached to the bike! :bag:

Itri, I hope you don't have a repeat of last year!

QQ, that is so cool that the town honored the Iraq vet that way. Thanks for sharing.

It's legal to set off fireworks where we live. My husband is really into the pyrotechnics - it's sort of a second childhood for him. So July 4th, we'll be setting off massive incendiary devices, amid beer and BBQ.

And the guy across the street plays the banjo. It's kinda Deliverance.

My brother and his wife are driving up from NYC to visit -- we have 3 of our kids this week so I'll be preparing a big bbq for the holiday, and we'll hang out. I'm planning to hit the gym early on the 4th while everybody's still asleep so I can enjoy some of my cooking! :D

I'm very much a cycle-tourist. This is just ONE of the trip our club does.

Memorial Day, we biked up from NYC to Sheffield, biked around for a day and bike back on the last day! The Berkshires is one of the best cycling destinations in the northeast that is within a day's ride from NYC. So we go there a lot!

One year, I planned a trip from NYC to Northampton, MA and back on a 3 day weekend. I ended up not able to go myself. But those we went thought said it was great. Still planning to do that trip myself some day in the future...
