You know what that means?

Time to harvest your vegetables?

So far the low here has been 57 degrees. I think winter is a lot further off for us than you!

It's DEFINITELY cold here this morning. Not sure how cold, but you can feel the change. I'm loving it!

ETA: It was 51.3*F here about 30 minutes ago. I imagine the low was much lower, but I can't find that data yet.

About 60 degrees here now, and it feels wooooonderful. Fall is my favorite season in terms of weather, hands down. Most people just don't appreciate it because they're bummed about winter coming. I try to explain to these people that they just need a winter hobby.

Overnight low temps n Denver have been 30s-50s. Beautiful. Most important, in the high country, the overnight temps have been consistently in the 30s...once they are consistently in the LOW 30s then the snowmaking can start!!!:snow:

When I checked around 7AM, it was 47° here in south-central VT. It's up to 48° now. Fall is definitely in the air! They're calling for colder temperatures tomorrow, with a freeze warning tonight!

50° here!!!

I could definitely feel the cold this morning when I woke up. What bugs me is that according to the weather forecast, we are supposed to have a humidex on Thursday. ...go figure!

I won't see what I would call Fall weather until mid October down here in NC. Highs are still mostly in the mid 80s this week, although next week will see temperatures drop to the upper 70s to low 80s. I've still got time for a few more warm-water trips to the beach before the water starts to cool off.

I love fall.

Hoodies and jackets in the morning.
Driving to work before the sun rises.
Breaking out the long sleeve jerseys for bike rides.
Sitting around the backyard firepit.
The smell of Halloween in the air.
Perfect temps for beer brewing!

Fall makes it easy to be patient for ski season.

Like Southern Skier, we've a long way to go before fall. I've been swimming laps each evening after dark with temperatures still 80ish. And it looks like I'll be going to Texas with Red Cross for Hurricane Ike, so fall will come quickly in Oct. I keep the (heated) pool open until mid October when leaves and $ for heating force me to close it.

Mmmmm, I love fall. The crisp morning air, sleeping with the windows open and needing to pull up the covers in the middle of the night. The smell of the first fires (yep, already had that in Boulder), stews and chilis on the stoves of my fellow apartment dwellers, pumpkin spice muffins (made my first batch yesterday). Next to winter Fall is my favorite season.

A repeat from my Dawning Chorus entry today, but worthy of repetition :becky:

Forecast for my region (copied/pasted, thus caps - no, I'm not shouting, but maybe I should be, i.e. cheering!):

A FROST ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO 8 AM EDT THURSDAY.

CLEAR SKIES AND CALM WINDS WILL ALLOW TEMPERATURES TO DROP INTO THE LOWER TO MID 30S ACROSS THE MOUNTAINS AND FOOTHILLS OVERNIGHT. MANY SHELTERED VALLEY LOCATIONS ARE LIKELY TO SEE A FROST...WITH SCATTERED FROST IN OTHER AREAS. A FEW OF THE MORE SHELTERED LOCATIONS COULD SEE TEMPERATURES DROP BELOW FREEZING.

Oooohh, please send sample of pumpkin spice muffins, for quality control of course. I've never had one, but sounds yummy!
Not a chance I'm shipping these babies off, my office didn't even get samples. But I'll happily send you the recipe if you like.

You know, we do have a cookbook in progress. How about contributing the recipe to that? Hmmmm?

Okay, I decided just to post the recipe here. I always add extra amounts of the spices and this time I threw in some cardamom as well. Non-fat plain yogurt is a great sub for the sour cream if you would like to lighten them up a bit. Oh, and just thow in the whole can of pumpkin, it's a little more than called for but works well.

Emily's Pumpkin Spice Muffins

Serving Size : 12

1/4 cup butter -- softened
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup low fat sour cream
1/4 cup 2% milk
1 2/3 cup pureed pumpkin
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
3/4 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp cloves - heaping
1 tsp cinnamon - heaping
1 cup all purpose flour
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt

Preheat over to 350 degrees.

Cream butter and sugars. Add the sour cream and next 7 ingredients (milk
through cinnamon) beat well.

Stir together flours, baking soda and salt in a small bowl. Add to wet
mixture and beat until combined.

Pour batter into muffin tin sprayed with cooking spray. Bake until a
