2007 atomic skis

I am curious which 2007 atomic skis are comparible to the Sugar Mamma 2008. I am an expert skier, ex-instructor/race coach. I love Atomic skis and I am now in the market for a new pair.

the Sugar Mama's are new this year. The Nomad series wasn't available last year.

I am interstested in the sugar mama's for 2008- but am not sure if I want to spend the money...so I was wondering if Atomic had a similar type of ski from 2007 that would be great for an expert all mountain skier. I was hoping to find a ski that had qualities of the sugar mama-I am aware that the sugar mama did not exist last year.

The Nomad series, and with it the Sugar Mama, is an entirely new development for Atomic. There is no comparable prior ski. Not even the similarly named Sweet Mama. I'm interested as well, but haven't gotten the opportunity to demo it yet.

I ripped on my Sugar Mamas today----like no other skis I've been on. They are fast, responsive, stable at high speeds, and make skating the flats a breeze. Demo a pair---------but beware---like me, you will obsess over them and then will have to buy a pair. A nice addition to a quiver.

The only ski Atomic had last year that was all mountain was the B5. And it was patterned off the Metron. Heavy ski. Not want I see in the Sugar Mama's after following SkiMave for a run.

Hi--First of all, thank you all at SkiDiva for this wonderful forum. I'm new to (y)our forum, and have found insightful, thoughtful comments. I hope I can contribute as well.
Re your question about Atomics. They are the only ski I use--i love them. I've read a lot about weight, etc. Yes, they can be heavy (I currently use B11, which are light and frisky, despite what I've read here), and Metron M11, with demo binding. I'm 5'8" 125 lb, 55 years old, and DO have chicken legs. I ski the B11 in 164, and find them to be tons of fun. I ski the M11 in 152, mainly because I use them for moguls.

The thing with Atomic is that you HAVE to use the edges. If you are a slider, they will not respond well. If you use your edges, you will have no issue with the weight, I think. I like Atomics mainly because they DO require that you ski well-they tell me right away when I'm getting lazy on the ski...!

My preference is off-piste, all mountain terrain, anything you can throw at me. I ride mainly diamond and some double-diamond, and each turn, each run and looking to create better technique. So if you call that "fun" as I do, well then you will like the Atomic series.

I haven't skied the women's Mama or Minx series, though. I am intrigued by the Mamas, esp Sugar Mama. My big problem here-and with the women's ski line--is that the manufacturers are so revolting in their graphics and names! (Yeah yeah, I know--I do love my Balanzes and they are a women's ski... so I actually think I would prefer a women's ski!). Simply put, I am too old to be called "foxy" or roxy or "luv" by a ski, and pink and pretty is simply not my style. And I'm sorry, but I'm already a "sugar mama" to a kid in college who is still on my dole! So I'm generally put off by how these manufacturer's "sell" their stuff to women...

So I know that part sounds silly, but I find attitude to be very important in any sport. My general ski-technique is aggressive and take-no-prisoners. My husband calls me a "ski-monster" because I am pretty much fearless, despite my age. So to put me on a ski with pink flowers and "luv" descriptions--well, I feel like I'm wearing a daughter's mini-skirt!

That said--I am RIGHT THERE to ski them, once the manufacturers settle down and give us a ski that LOOKS like they take us seriously. In the meantime, check out the M-11s--you are an expert skier, and so obviously have the technique to handle them. And they are such fine skis.

Next years Atomic take a totally different spin. The Foxy Mama is now Heaven's Gate. The Minx is gone and a new line called Cloud. They seems to be into celestial things for 2009. Colours are much better too.
Rossi has changed their colours too. Did away with the mirror this year. Next year is better with the colours.
Salomon has changed colours too. The Topaz is something people might buy. The Origin has dropped most of the flowers. And there are some new additions to the their line too.
Yes, the names of some of the ski models leave a lot to be desired, but the manufacturers are learning slowly and things are getting better.

Thank you for your response. I bought a pair of the sugar moma's and I absolutely love them. They are quick, great on anything, wonderful edge control, light, and super fun. I even like them more than my old pair of Atomics.
