In the middle of my super busy work day, I received an email from Okemo announing the Farmer's Almanac predictions for an early, snowy Winter right through Christmas. Do any of you Divas consult the Farmer's Almanac or other sources for seasonal snow prediction? I know I'm counting on an early, long, snowy season here in the Northeast!:hail:

Well, we have some local Vermont carpenters working at our house right now and they say...the wooly bears are almost all black and heading northwest. the fruit trees have a bumper crop this year. the leaves are already turning. So early winter and lots of snow

Ha!
My parents have black walnut trees at their house. It seems that the green husks are thick and heavy, which is an indicator of a hard winter coming up.

I dunno, but I think some of these old signs of seasons may hold some truth.

Hope you're right SH. I've heard a lot of people talking about global warming and wondering what the coming winter will be like. After last winter, hoping for another one like the year before last!!

SkiPressworld states today that NOAA is calling for a La Nina this year. Now for us in the East no big deal, but southwest and northwest get the brunt of this thing. I like to listen to the folk lore stuff too. The mountain ash trees around here are full of fruit. And the leaves are just starting to turn. And the low Thursday morning was +5 or around 40 deg F, so things are starting to cool down.

I'm not a believer of FA. Personally, I think the days of white X'mas will become increasingly rare. On the other hand, this may be one of those years though.

The millions of dallar resorts putting into snowmaking isn't just for the occasional draught. The season IS getting started later and later as the years go by. So resorts are lossing big time due to poor snow over X'mas. What the casual skiers don't seem to notice is the seasons also end later and later. But that doesn't help the resorts since most skiers don't have a habit of skiing after Easter. Hardcores like us, though, stands to benefit from the empty lift lines

I live in a sub-alpine area of mainland Europe, last year we got a handful of snowy days. It's been below freezing at night for the last fortnight, the animals (horses & dogs) are looking VERY hairy already for mid-september, the villagers are getting in firewood by the truckload and people are panicking about winter tyres. Yep, I think it's going to be a big one this end!

Good and bad: good because there's a ski hill a 10 minute walk away... bad because I hate driving in the stuff - I have a rear-wheel drive and in a nutshell I just can't control the thing. :noidea:

I'm hoping for BIG BIG BIG snow on December 1st!:cheer:

Other than that.....I'll take what you give me!
