Multi-resort passes for 2022-23: Ikon, Epic, Indy etc.

The Mountain Collective Pass price has gone up to $599 for adults, $499 for teens (13-18), $199 for kids. Possible that the MCP won't be available after Dec. That's been the case for the last couple seasons. However, nothing has ever been consistent about the MCP.

Jackson Hole requires reservations for the MCP.

Ikon reservations will be required for more Partner resorts than last season. For 2021-22, Jackson Hole and Taos required reservations. For 2022-23, Aspen Ski Co and Boyne Resorts decided to take that route to Aspen/Snowmass, Big Sky, Brighton, Snowqualmie, and Loon will require reservations. People planning on a winter break ski vacation can make a reservation as early as August.
Reminder . . . Ikon reservations are required at Jackson Hole, Taos, Aspen/Snowmass, along with Boyne Resorts locations Big Sky, Brighton, Summit at Snoqualmie, and Loon.

Anyone attending Diva West at Taos who is using Ikon should go ahead and make Ikon reservations. Pretty sure Ikon F&F tickets are also subject to the Ikon reservation count. Weekends can reach the maximum for advanced reservations. More slots are release early each week for the next 7-day period.

I just posted over on the Diva West thread about ticket pricing for Diva West. Taos general tickets go on sale today, the Ikon Friends and Family tickets go on sale Oct. 15.

It's become obvious that the Ikon Friends & Family discount is going to be different than last couple seasons. In particular, Taos gave the 25% discount off the applicable window rate. So a senior or junior paid 25% off a price that was already less than for an adult ticket.

Also need to check if a resort that requires Ikon reservations also requires a reservation or advanced ticket purchase is using F&F.

JH and Taos not only require Ikon reservations, they also require pass holders to be present if a friend is using F&F.

Epic pass prices go up Oct. 9.

Ikon prices go up Oct. 14. Note that Ikon Base doesn't include access to Jackson Hole, Aspen/Snowmass, Sun Valley, Snowbasin, Deer Valley, or Alta/Snowbird. Can get 5 days at Snowbird only with Ikon Base. While most Alterra resorts include unlimited access for Ikon, Crystal is limited to 7 days even for Full Ikon and Steamboat is limited to 5 days for Ikon Base.

Ikon reservations required for Summit at Snoqualmie, Big Sky, Jackson Hole, Brighton, Aspen/Snowmass, Taos, Windham, Loon. Pretty sure Windham is new to this list.

Sun Peaks in BC has joined Ikon for 2022-23. It's been popular with Australians for a while.

Also added Grandvalira Resorts across the Pyrenees in Andorra.

Also, I was told by IKON the session pass increases on Oct 14 as well. About $50 at least.

The Mountain Collective Pass (MCP) has shifted away from Ikon in a more noticeable way for 2022-23. Adding more resorts in Canada is one factor. Having lost Alterra resorts Mammoth, Palisades Tahoe, and Sugarbush is another. Snowbasin and Sun Valley are back on the MCP after being Epic Partners (limited days) for a few years.

The MCP remains useful for a trip that involves SLC. With Snowbasin having re-joined, that means it's possible to use the MCP at three resorts within a short drive of the city. Alta and Snowbird remain separate using the MCP so that means four days are covered, not just two. For someone who plans ahead and chooses the bonus day at Alta or Snowbird in the spring, that brings the total to 7 potential ski days. Jackson Hole and/or Grand Targhee are 5-6 hours away if willing to make the drive to get in another 2 or 4 ski days. Could be on the same trip or two separate trips.

Sun Peaks in BC is the latest addition (popular with Australians)

The final price increase for Epic passes for 2022-23 happened recently. Sales will stop before mid-December, per usual. Epic Local isn't really for locals because it's good at all Epic resorts, but has holiday blackout dates. There are also a few small locations that have 1-location passes.

Epic $899 (from $879), Epic Local $669 (from $655)

Northeast Value $546 (from $535), Northeast Midweek $410 (from $401)
Tahoe Local $569 (from $555), Tahoe Value $485 (from $475)
Keystone Plus $365 (from $355), Summit Value $540 (from $529)
Ohio $325 (from $315)

The final prices for an adult for Ikon passes are $1229 for Full Ikon, $1119 Ikon Base Plus, $919 Ikon Base, and $519 for a 4-day Ikon Session Pass. 1-3 day Ikon Session Passes also exist.

The 2022-23 final price for Full Ikon is $200 more than 2019-20, which was the last season before the COVID-19 shut down of the entire ski industry in mid-March 2020. Back then Ikon Base included all the Partners and Ikon Base Plus didn't exist.

Has anyone else purchased either insurance?
Re: accident/injury insurance

I personally highly recommend getting AFLAC supplement insurance. With my ACL injury/reconstruction/PT related claims, ended up getting enough (it was over 2k, close to 3k) to actually pay all my deductible/copay/co-insurance related to the injury and came out ahead. Though I was dual insured then... i'd probably come out even if I only had one primary insurance.

They pay out fast too, almost always in a buss. day or two ... Most I've waited to see claim response was maybe 4 days? Yeah. Definitely worth to buy, esp if your employer offers and you can just get it via open enrollment w/o medical review. Also consider short-term disability (They'll pay over whatever else state/employer disability ins you have). For women, aflac cancer insurance will pay out if you get dx'ed with high-risk, but benign breast lesions like LCIS and ADH.

All aflac insurance types also pay you to go get wellness checks, so getting your annual or flu vax can pay out to off set the premiums.

Epic pass prices go up again on Nov. 20. I assume that will be the last price increase given that Epic passes usually are not available after early December.

The Mountain Collective Pass will go off sale completely after Dec. 20.

There is a discount code USD75 to save $75 if buying the MCP for 2022-23 by Nov. 22. I found out at Snowbound Expo in Boston. The rep has been working for the MCP for seven years. Had a nice conversation with him on Friday. They were pretty busy on Saturday.

Note that the MCP requires reservations at a few resorts for 2022-23. To set up reservations, need to find the link on each resort website. Also need to create an account for the resort. Setting up Ikon reservations for Partners is a lot easier.

Discovered there are podcasts with a marketing overview of each MCP resort on the MCP website. Haven't listened to any yet. Le Massif is new to the MCP and people at Snowbound Expo in Boston seemed pretty interested.

Ikon holders in Southern California will be able to use it at Snow Valley starting Feb. 20, 2023. Alterra has already closed on the deal. Snow Valley was founded in 1924. Sounds like it will be managed together with Big Bear and Snow Summit in the long run. Probably nothing much will change this season.

:bump:

Epic, Ikon, and the MCP haven't been available for a couple months. All versions of Indy Pass continued to be available at their highest price points. The 2022-23 Indy is going off sale tonight, Feb. 21, 2023.

Needless to say, 1-location season passes for 2023-24 are already on sale in some regions. Early March is when renewal offers will go out to folks who have Epic and/or Ikon for 2022-23.
