Is this the future of skiing?

From what I remember, Buck Hill finished the initial installation last fall. The idea was to test out the system and to give their racing team a head start on the season. Sounds like they made some changes based on that experience for their first summer season.

The set up at Liberty that uses Snowflex (running water on plastic) has been around for around ten years. The college uses it for PE classes (skiing, snowboarding) but it's also open to the public year round.

Been a while since Divas have discussed artificial slopes and indoor snow facilities.

Sure, artificial surfaces have been around for a while. But I'm wondering if this will become more widespread as the climate continues to change. I can't imagine that it'd cover too much of area on any mountain, though.

I skied on artificial turf in Ober Gatlinburg years ago. Little plastic beads about the size of a grain of rice plus water helped sliding.

The new indoor ski facility in China is on a completely different scale from most similar facilities. According to a July 2017 article in a UK media outlet: "The slopes can accommodate up to 3,000 people at a time, and the resort’s owners are hoping to welcome 400,000 visitors by the end of 2017." The Harbin Wanda Indoor Ski and Winter Sports Resort has 80,000 sq meters (almost 20 acres) and includes six runs. See the article for pics. Harbin has an amazing annual ice sculpture contest every winter.

All I can say is - if you've ever skied with our very own SkiDiva ScottishGirlie - you will quickly become a believer that skiing and training on artificial surfaces can make you a beautiful skier!

Hope it will catch on here. Another way to extend the season!
