It'd be great to have a list of Divas who are ski instructors, in case anyone from the forum wants a lesson. So if you're an instructor, how about about listing your mountain, level, experience, and area of expertise (if anything specific)? Plus anything else you want us to know.

We'd also like to post your affiliation under your user name so it appears every time you post. So please PM me your information so I can put that in place.

This is not a requirement, but it's a great way to let people know where you're coming from and where your expertise might lie.

I teach at Hunter Mountain in the Catskills of New York. this will be my 5th year and I'm working on my level II certification. I love teaching moms - they need the TLC, I love teaching kids with ADHD, I love beginners and just love being surprised by what clients bring to the table.

You sound like me. I love Ladies night. Getting the Mom's out of the chalet and on the hill. Beginners are special...the improvement in 1 hour or 2 is amazing. Keep the passion!!

I realize this is an old thread and that I'm a little late to the game, but I'm sitting home on a snow day trawling the forums b/c none of the mountains close by are open yet. Boo.

I am an instructor at Mount Southington (425 feet of vertical, oh yeah!) where I mostly co-supervise the Children's program on weekends and do some instructor training. I am PSIA certified Level II, going for III this spring. I also have a Children's Specialist 1 and an AASI Level I because for a while there I really thought I was a snowboarder.

I am a teacher in real life as well as on the slopes. I feel lucky to have found a place where I can combine my two passions - skiing and teaching kids  Nothing makes me happier than being on the snow - I can relate to "perma-grin's" username and kinda wish I thought of it first, lol.

I love working with special populations of children and adults (autistic children will always have a place in my heart), and first-timers of all ages. There's nothing as satisfying as seeing a "never-ever" fall in love with the sport! I will never understand why some experienced instructors are reluctant to teach first-timers or kids after a while, but whatever. More for me.

Areas of personal expertise include bump/tree skiing, balance, rhythm, flow, finesse and the mind/body/soul/ski connection. I view the mountain as a dance partner, not something to be conquered. Skiing is where I feel the most connected, where I find peace, and where I find joy. My ultimate goal as an instructor is to help others tap into those things as well. Now if I could only get out there and do it!

Welcome, CTskigrrl. Your post got me looking back over this thread and it is amazing the collection of talent. And, I know for absolute certain that many of us have gained additional certifications and accreditations since we originally posted! Maybe it's time for an update??????

Since my last post I completed the PSIA Children's Specialist level 2 accreditation and the Freestyle (aka park and pipe) level 1 accreditation. Just today, I started on day one of the advanced educator three day clinic for level 3s looking to become trainer and maybe go for DECL status. My head is spinning, but it is a blast to be challenging myself again within my proffession.

WOW at all the talent and experience here!

I am a member PSIA-West Level 1 adaptive in cognitive past last season
I am a volunteer instructor with the United States Adaptive Recreation Center
At Bear Mt. Big Bear, Calif.
This is where my passion is, helping those with a disability, mainly cognitive, get out and have an awesome day on the snow. Many of my students are first timers or only get 1 day a year on the snow so I want that day to be the best ever!
I have been volunteering for 4yrs and able to be a primary instructor for 2 yrs

Do you know Karen and Rene Mora? I believe they also volunteer with the Adaptive Center at Bear.

I was teaching with Rene earlier this week.
Cool. I've known them for years. I keep promising to invite them up to the cabin to spend the weekend but we've had constant guests. Don't mention the diva weekend. Divas always come first. I'll get them later in March if we still have snow.

Hello Divas! I am a full time ski instructor currently at Stowe Mountain Resort for the past 3 yrs. I am PSIA L2 and CS2 training for L3. I have been teaching since I was a teen. I have varied experiences in the ski industry and find that I have found this to be my happy place. Learn a new turn and share it.

JaneB

PSIA 1 Instructor, Killington
I am a level I PSIA alpine instructor and Children's Specialist 1. I worked at Okemo for five years and am currently at Pico. I am working on Level II alpine.

I am also a snowboarder.

I have a special interest in working with the anxious skier. I've also come back from a major injury and am interested in working with anyone who's been through that. I am a psychologist by profession.

I've loved skiing since I was five years old and love it even more now! My goal as an instructor is to pass that on.

ISIA cert for ski and SB, not sure what that means in the PSIA system. technically also qualified to teach tele but nobody has ever wanted to learn that. Have been teaching all sorts of people (mostly pretty ripping kids) part time at a small hill in Austria for the last 7 or so years.

IIRC
ISIA Stamp = PSIA 3 CSIA 3 (well almost... PSIA don't do the extra stuff required for stamp like second language and avalanche I think... CSIA I think do most but stopped seeking ISIA match up a while back - there were rumors it was coming back... not sure)

ISIA Card = ?? next level up CSIA4 would go close but is their race same as technique test(eq to Eurotest) I think there were issues to be resolved there too... Test technical for ISIA card is within 12.5% of a 50 point FIS skier for a male and 17.5% for a female. (they actually run 4 and average I believe).

klar- so you are staatliche? Some of my fav instructors are staatliche.

To get into Austrian full cert you must compete for a place IIRC - they start with the Eurotest - similar to above I believe.

I am Landeslehrer ski and SB, one below staatlich. We get the ISIA stamp with that. I am not aware of a difference between the stamp and a card? We have an instructor ID that lists the courses we've done and you either have a stamp or you don't.. We have entry exams for Landes level in some states and a centralized one for staatlich. Eurotest is a requirement for completion of Staatlich course, the entry exam has a similar thing with slightly easier knockout times. Around 60 percent of those who try fail the entry exam in the GS part, half of the remaining usually fail the other parts of the exam. Other requirements are bumps and various showings of certain techniques on groomed and ungroomed snow.

Once people get in the course they usually finish, getting in is the problematic part  I wish they would focus less on racing and more on freestyle and backcountry skills. I have never had anyone ask me to teach them how to run a GS course, I have had people want to ski switch and ride powder...
