Getting through the off season

I finally found a summer sport. I started road-biking last summer, in prep of a 50m charity ride in the fall, the year before I did the 25m but hardly trained and only had a Mt. bike. Last spring I bought a road bike and got up to weekend rides of 35-45miles. Too busy during the week (and the suburban traffic scares me), so I try to fill in with mt biking in nearby woods with DH (short rides) and playing/practicising sports with my kiddos. I was able to bike through October last fall and ski the same month, have only had one weekend off from biking or skiing since August. And all that road biking has made me the best skier ever, at 45yo I am a better skier than I was at 30yo. I should be able to start biking the weekend after I stop skiing in April. Huge difference when I'm fit 12 months a year rather than 6.

I race sailboats in the summer (I crew on a 30 ft Catalina). I also run road races (5 and 10K mostly) and do triathlons. I encourage all of my female friends to try a tri! Danskin and Trek have women's only sprint tris all around the US that are really a wonderful experience. The women are so supportive of each other, and really, anyone can do it. I find that creating a summer race schedule really helps to ease my springtime end of ski season blues :-)

My off-season plans...I signed up for a 30-day 30 min fitness challenge in June. Otherwise, will be riding bikes and hiking, going to the beach, attending a couple of ski diva get-togethers, and making some next season plans. Hope to do a little summer travelling too.

As for skiing, I have a pass for Mammoth so I go there alot.

Zoomchick, sounds like you're another so-Cal Diva. Perhaps you'd like to meet up with some other Divas next season at Mammoth.

I just can't get into the biking frame of mind this year. :frown:

I'm still disc golfing, am on week 6 of the C25K program, and we started kayaking last year. Fortunately, we live in the land of lakes and rivers, so kayaking is available just a couple miles down the road.

We just had our first bike ride of the season – a 15 km ride with DS' scout troop this weekend through the river valley. It was a beautiful but cold sunny morning to start with, and we got a little snow by the end, however, we had a wonderful time! I'm really looking forward to mountain biking season! There are a few dry trails already.

Need to get back to my gymnastics classes... I really miss them. I kinda put them on hold this past winter between swing dancing and skiing.

My ankle is tolerating a combo of hot yoga and mellow indoor rock climbing. To be honest, my arms give out before my ankle does. The ankle injury's a nice reminder not to overtax my ligaments as I'm getting back into climbing.

I am trying to run 1-2 days a week, at least until the humid heat comes. Also trying to get back to Zumba, belly dancing and squeeze in some hot yoga days too.
