2015 Alta website completed

Looks like the make over of the Alta website is finally done. There is a lot more info useful to people going to Alta for the first time. Not only is there an interactive trail map based on a new painting by James Niehues, there are also maps/diagrams for the two bases, as well as a map showing bus stops and parking lots. The PDF trail map is the same as before. Lodging and dining options on mountain and in the town of Alta are included, which was not really true before.

There is also more info about future plans already approved but not yet scheduled. Several Alta lifts may look different eventually.

Turned out that Alta didn't start using new trail maps with the 2015 Niehues painting until late season. However, the signs on the slopes were based on the new trail map. The signs are also bigger than the old ones and includes all the trail names. For people who are new to Alta, it makes it somewhat easier to decide where to go next. Of course, what hasn't changed is that Alta only has black as the "most difficult" category but there is a lot of difference between easy and extreme black trails, regardless of snow conditions.

Depending on what the Forest Service decides about the latest Master Development Plan in the next few months, could be a few changes to Alta lifts in the next few years. All the ideas have been in the MDP for a while, but the latest plan contains more details about how Sunnyside/Albion and Supreme/Cecret would be replaced.
