    Ski Area Environmental Scorecard

Hi fellow Divas! I'm finally checking back in after a long summer off. I happened across this web site that grades ski areas on their environmental policies and footprints. I found it quite interesting and very disappointing to see many of my favorite areas receive very poor results. Scores are...

    Ski area count.

How in the world did I miss this thread when it was first post? IN: Paoli Peaks, Perfect North CA: Heavenly, Sierra at Tahoe UT: Deer Valley, Park City Mtn. Resort, The Canyons, Alta CO: Wolf Creek, Breckenridge, Keystone, Copper, Vail, Beaver Creek, Loveland, Steamboat VT: Killington...

    Bears, oh my!

While we were in Steamboat a couple of weeks ago, my sons saw a Mama bear and two cubs from the ski lift. They were just at the side of a trail that was strangely empty. The Patrol had to be called to scare them off to another area where fewer people were skiing. The boys were in ski school so I...

    Anyone else experience end-of-season depression?

Yes, yes, yes! I start feeling the blues on the last two or three days of our final ski trip of the season. Then I obsess over figuring out how I can sneak in another trip (which never happens). Not only do I loathe hot weather, but it is SO hot here in Texas, that even if I had a summer sport...

    Biggest Surprises/Disappointments

I saw this thread over on Epic and thought I'd give it a shot over here. It degraded into a pi$$ing match over there as to why you would want to share you favorite spots with others or some such nonsense. Anywho, just wondering what ski area/resorts you were pleasantly surprised with and others...

    Favorites Travel Sites

When I plan my ski vacations (or any vacations for that matter), I want to know that I'm getting the best deal available. I research my a$$ off and am never really satisfied that I've found the best deal or even the best place to stay. I use a plethora of different travel sites for all my...

What kind of socks do you wear?

In Breckenridge last fall, hubby and I got turned on to the Wigwam INgenius SnowSports socks. They are so awesome. Very thin, warm merino wool with an integrated Olefin liner. Comfy, warm and dry!

Need help with new ski boots - Nordica GTS.

Hey Jen! Is this guy that fitted you an actual custom boot fitter? I'm no expert, but I do know I have 12 hours of custom work in my boots. I would think that if this guy is good, he could make some alterations to the boots you like to help the heel lift instead of putting you into a completely...

Poll: How do your legs & feet feel riding chairlifts without footrests?

Before I got my new boots, I had serious issues on lifts without footrests (which are almost always the lifts that take the absolute longest to get up the hill). I actually had an attack of exertional compartment syndrome (this is the medical condition that sidelined my inline skating) riding a...

    Ski Divas' Other interests

Might as well add my .02. I think many of you know that I used to inline skate until I was sidelined by an injury. Sigh I hit the gym 4 times a week doing weights and cardio, except, SkiDiva, like you, I don't particularly enjoy it (except when I'm rocketing down the slopes knowing that my...

    Steamboat March 10-17

Saturday March 10 Landed in Denver and picked up our rental car. Began the long drive to Steamboat. Stopped in Dillon for an excellent lunch and a brew or two at the Dillon Dam Brewery. It was snowing beautiful big flakes and snowed almost all the way from Dillon to Steamboat. Traffic was fine...

How do you protect your skis from theft?

Hubby had his skis stolen last season at Deer Valley (you really wouldn't expect it to happen there and to this day Deer Valley refuses to admit that they were actually stolen). We bought a Kryptonite lock to use after that experience and we promptly locked ourselves out of it on the first day...

    Spring/Slush Skiing

Just had to chime in since skiing at Steamboat last week was my first time skiing in pretty slushy snow. Mornings were tougher for me because of the ice. Once it softened up into slush (or glue as hubby calls it) I was in heaven. I'd rather ski that than ice any day.

Your season- over? Going strong? Coming to an end?

Well, it's been awhile since I've hung out over here with the Diva's, but seeing this thread made me want to jump in and share. I've been grieving my last day of ski season for almost a week now. My last day was Friday, March 16 at Steamboat. I'm already starting to plan for next season.

    Delta & US Air

Flying anywhere from Austin is freaking expensive these days. So-called low-cost carriers like Southwest are actually being beaten by American on many flights in my area. I just don't understand why when gas prices came down, airline prices didn't follow. I don't know if Delta even serves...

    Red Meat & Breast Cancer

Red wine - YES! No thanks on the red meat, haven't had any since I was 16. I'm a veg-head. Chocolate is my favorite food group.

    e-bay

I sell stuff on eBay on a semi-regular basis. I've sold golf clubs, a mountain bike, inline skates, ski boots, and need to sell my old Volkl Energy 320's too. Timing is everything. Now is probably a great time to sell skis on eBay with the season getting underway. Check out other seller's...

    Quality vs. Quantity

Good point, Lilgeorg. Plus, it may discourage other skiers as well, giving you an uncrowded mountain.

Health & Fitness Tip of the Day

I'm really bad about beating myself up if I miss a day at the gym or stray from my diet. I heard this from Dr. Oz on Oprah (I think) that made me re-think how I treat myself when I goof. He said, "If you have a navigational system in your car and you make a wrong turn, it does not say, 'You...
