"When you and your boyfriend have the same hobby at different levels" videos

Yes, this trend has been bothering me so much! I'd love to see one where the couple are just roughly equals on the mountain?

    Hickory ski area GoFundMe

Hi everyone, a small ski area inNY is trying to raise some funds to cover their insurance premium this year. You can read the whole story on their GoFundMe. If you are feeling in the giving spirit, it would go a long way to make sure the lifts spin at this local mountain this season...

    so... smugs in march?

I went April 1st weekend last year. Trail coverage was not a problem, though it did rain one day. Crowds were low (even on the sunny day). Just be aware that their lifts are very slow and the ski back to the Morse side can be a slog (sometimes its easier just to take the shuttle back).

SUV for New England Skiers - Advice!

We test drove the ascent last year and found the 3rd row very tight. Probably not the best choice if your teen sons will be riding back there. We got a 2023 outback and LOVE it. So far have had no issues (knock on wood!). This was our 4th Outback (5th Subaru) between the 2 of us. We are in a...

    Club med?

Hi! I think it's too late to plan for this season, but the idea of trying out a club med ski vacation keeps catching my eye (especially all these black friday deals I'm seeing!) I love the idea of included childcare (and when dd is old enough, ski school/childcare) and especially for an...

Non-profit ski areas in North America as of 2023, large and small

It's not really open to the public to just go ski for a day, but the National Winter Acrivity Center in NJ is a non-profit. Pretty cool concept to take over a defunct ski area and turn it into a place that just offers ski programs for kids! https://www.winter4kids.org/

    Fraudulent ski pass use

Yeah, I'd say this is a bit more than dishonest... she took passes that were for other people and let her friends use them for the weekend. I think this goes beyond letting a friend use your season pass when you weren't there. Or if an employee, selling (or probably even giving away to...

    Child Care Survey

Honestly I wished it was a bit more comprehensive. Some questions about what we would like to see in the childcare provided would be helpful e.g. should food be provided? Amount of structure to the day and ratio of educational to playtime etc. There are also so many ways that ski areas could...

Insights on becoming a weekend ski instructor (female, Boston area)

Yes, Blue Hills is always looking for more instructors! There are talks to revamp new hire training next year and make it one weekend right before we open. I'm not sure what they plan to charge next year, but has always been pretty cheap, mostly to cover the cost of pizza. We had a TOUGH...

    Ideas for a Women's Camp

A good blend of techniques and tactics I find really nice. Tactics such as using the hill shape or bumps to your advantage, counting or singing, looking out of the corner of your eye prior to the next turn. Technique wise I find that spending time working on steering the inside ski has a huge...

Anybody here do any backcountry Nordic skiing?

I have a pair of Karhu bc xc skis and they are so much fun. I ski them with some old Tele boots and use them in the hills and parks around our house and they usually end up in the roof box on bigger trips too as an evening fun option, day off of alpine or back up incase of windholds etc. I...

    Tipping Q

I typically figure about $5 (group lesson) to $10 (private) per hour. So a basic beginner 2-hr group lesson, I would give $10 per person. You might factor a little more if it is a holiday week or if you really had a breakthrough/they went above and beyond to help you specifically. Also if you...

    Instructor Roll Call '22/'23

Mary Nitschke: Blue Hills in Canton, MA. Alpine level 2, child specialist 2. New baby at home means I'll be cutting back my hours this year, but hoping to still teach my Thursday night Women's program. I will also do private lesson requests (prearranged through the ski school).

Will the cap on day lift at Vail improve the skier experience?

I think it's part marketing strategy to drive more pass sales..."if you don't have a pass, you might miss out on a day you want to ski!" And part a low hanging fruit in terms of a change they could make that will make it look like they are doing something about the crowds, won't p.o. their pass...
