How to use the forum

ATTN NEW MEMBERS: You will NOT be able to post on the forum until your registration is confirmed after you have verified your account. Please be patient.

Starting a New Discussion (Thread)
Click on the forum in which you want to post. At the top right there's a button titled "Post New Thread.” Click on it, then enter the title to your thread ie; "Hello I'm new.” Then type into the box below. When you’re done with your message and want to post, click on the "Create Thread" button just below. This will create a basic thread with no polls or pictures.

Replying to a Post
At the bottom of the page there's a “Post Reply" box in which you can type, add media and/or pictures, or find more options, if needed. Once you’re done adding content, click on the "Post Reply" button below the box.

Quoting a Post or Multiple Posts
Go to the post you want to quote and click on “Reply” at the bottom right of the post. if you only want a section of a quote to appear, simply highlight that section before you hit reply. A little pop-up will appear where you can click "reply" or "+quote." If you click "reply," only that portion will show up in your post box. If you want to select another quote from another person's post, click "+Quote," go the next post you want to select, and do the same thing.

The Search Function
You can search the forums for any words. We advise doing this if you’re unsure if a topic has already been discussed. Just enter your key words in the search bar at the top right of the page.This will open up a larger search box. Now you can search for posts by a particular member or go to advanced search, which gives you many more options, such as searching a particular forum.

Searching for New Threads/Discussions and Posts
The quickest way to find new posts you haven’t yet read is to click on the "Forums" tab at the top left, then click on the "What's New" tab. You can also go to the forum of interest from the main forums page and click on it there. All the threads you haven’t yet read yet will then show up in bold. If you’ve posted in a thread, your avatar will show up as a very small avatar over the thread icon.

Reporting a Post
There may come a time when you want to report a post to the staff; for example, if you detect abuse, spam or trolling. To do this, just click on the "Report" button at the bottom of the post in question. This will bring up a box where you can enter your reason for reporting the post. Then click on “Report Post.” The staff will receive your report and handle the situation from there.

Uploading Video Files
You can upload media files to a thread from third-party sites like YouTube, Vimeo, LiveLeak, DailyMotion or Metacafe. Simply click on the small film icon in the post reply box to open a pop-up box (this is two to the right of the smiley face). Enter the URL in the space provided and click "Embed". You can not post video directly from your computer.

Uploading a Picture to a Post
There are a couple different ways to upload a picture to a post. To upload a picture from the internet, just click on the small tree picture icon. A pop-up will appear where you can insert a link to your image, then click "Insert".
OR
To upload a picture from your computer, click on "Upload a File" to the right just below the post box. A pop-up will appear where you can click "Choose File" and browse your own computer for the picture you want.
OR
Drag the photo you want to upload from your computer into the reply box.
Once uploaded, you can choose either Thumbnail or Full Image size. Then click "Post Reply." Note that the picture will be automatically resized to fit the post space if needed. Please try not to upload anything larger than 600px x 600px

Your Profile
To get to your profile, first click on your name at the top right to bring down your preferences. Then click on your name. This will take you to your profile page.. Here you can see everything from who is following you to your status updates.

Your Preferences
To find your preferences, hover on your name in the top right, then click “Preferences.” From here you can change everything from your personal details to your alert preferences. Just click on the tab on the left to reach that page of options. It’s worth going through them from time to time to make changes or check information. Let's start at the top.

Your Account
Your Alerts: This shows your recent alert activity. You can get alerts for everything from who's following you to who liked one of your posts.
Your News Feed: This shows you what people you follow are up to on the forum.
Likes Received: This shows all the likes you’ve received, who they’re from, and for what post.
Watched Threads:This lists all your watched threads.
Personal Conversations
Personal conversations are like “Private Messages” in our old forum.
View Conversations: This lists all the personal conversations you’ve been involved in.
Start a New Conversation:
This gives you the chance to start a new conversation.
Settings Personal Details: This is where you can edit everything from your home mountain to your home page. Just remember to click save at the bottom.
Signature: You can add your signature here. It’s recommended to preview it first, then save.
Contact Details: From here you can amend you email address associated to the account if needed and add your identities like twitter to your profile so people can contact you on a social network.
Privacy: Here you can decide if people can see your online status or even who may see your profile.
Preferences: This is where you can choose to view other peoples signatures or change the style you are viewing.
Alert Preferences; Here you can amend the alerts you receive.
People you Follow: This will list everyone you follow.
Password: You can change your password here.

Privacy
Everyone should take the time out to check and set their privacy settings. This can be done quite easily.Just hover over your name at the top, then select "Privacy." You can do anything from showing your online status to who can view your profile page. Just select the section you want to change, click on the selection you want, then click save at the bottom.

Watched Threads
You can watch any thread you like and receive emails when there are new posts in that thread. Go to the thread you want to watch and click on “Watch Thread” in the thread's upper right. You will see a pop-up asking if you want to receive email notifications of new posts.
To view all your watched threads just go to your name at the top of the page and click on “Watched Threads.” This will take you to a page that'll show your watched threads if they contain any new posts. Click on the thread to view.

What is an Avatar?
Avatars are small images that represent you on the forum and appear next to your posts and on your profile and profile card. You may upload your own. Or, if you’re a member of gravatar.com, you can sync your avatar with your email address. Resizing is not required. In the avatar editor there's a preview of your uploaded avatar. You can move the mouse around here to refocus the square.

Uploading Avatars
Go to the top of the page and hover on your name until the drop down box appear. Click on “ Avatar.” In the first box that appears, you can upload your chosen picture from your computer. It’s recommended that it be at least 200x200 pixels. Click on "Choose File" and select the image to use. Then click on "Okay" at the bottom.
OR
You can use Gravatar. Gravatar is an image that is classed as a social avatar and can be used in many different places. You have to be a member at gravatar.com and upload your pictures there. Click on "Use a Gravatar,” then fill in your email address and click "Test" then "Okay". Uploading the gravatar will auto resize it to the size TheSkiDiva needs. Uploading the avatar will auto resize, but gives you the option to crop the avatar. In the avatar editor there's a preview of your uploaded avatar. You can move the mouse around here to refocus the square.

Signatures
A signature is text that appears under every post you make.
How to get a signature
Go to your name at the top right, hover over it, and click on “Signature.” This will take you to the box where you can add a signature. It's advised to click preview before save to make sure it's the way you want it first. Then click save. Please, no more than three lines of text.

Status Updates
A status update is a little piece of information about you -- like how you're feeling or what you’re doing -- much like you see on Facebook or Twitter. You can update your status either by hovering over your name at the top right and filling in your status at the bottom of this box, or by going to your profile and entering your status there. Your status update will show on your profile and your profile card. You can also comment on someone else's status update by clicking on the comment text just right of their status.

Following People
You can "Follow" people on TheSkiDiva by clicking on their avatar to bring up their profile card and click on “Follow.”

Personal Conversations
A personal conversation is like a private thread/discussion viewable to only those invited to join the conversation. You can invite up to 5 members to participate in the conversation. If there’s a response to a conversation or you have been invited into one, you’ll get an alert in your inbox at the top right of the page.
To start a new conversation
Click on "Inbox," which appears beside your name in the upper right area, then click on "Start New Conversation" in the page that appears.
To respond to a conversation
You’ll get an alert in your inbox next to your name top right of the page. Hover over this and a box will appear. Click on the conversation. You can reply at the bottom. It’ll have your avatar next to it, much like a normal post.
Inviting Others
If you want to invite others into the conversation after it's initiated, you must click "Allow anyone in the conversation to invite others" before the conversation begins. This is located below the text box, and allows anyone participating in the conversation to include another participant. To invite more people into the conversation once it is underway, just click on the "Invite More" at the bottom of the Conversation Participants to the right of the page. You will get a pop up where you can add in more members. It’s worth noting that when added the new participants can view the conversation that happened before they were added.
Leave a Conversation
Once you are done with the conversation and wish to leave, just click on the Leave Conversation text at the top right of the conversation. This will bring up a pop up asking if you still want to be informed of future conversation in that particular personal conversation.

Your News Feed
Your News Feed is simply a view of what your followed friends are posting, liking and doing. You can get to this through your account. Just hover over your name at the top right of the page and click on “News Feed.” You can choose to hide people from the news feed by clicking on the hide button on the right of their feed.

Likes
A "Like" is when you click the button "Like" on someone’s post at the bottom right next to reply, or somebody clicks to "Like" your post. It saves you wasting a post with "I like your post" type of comments. To see how many "Likes" someone has you can view their profile card or your own profile card, you can also find it in your profile.
